This is such a fun idea for lighting at girls camp or even just any outdoor activity you plan. The girls will enjoy creating the “lanterns,” and they are easy to make! In fact, even Primary-aged children can easily make these.
Tip: You can use battery-operated lights inside for a safe, easy lighting solution.
Materials:
Clear glass canning jars or other glass jars
Sand
Mod Podge or glue solution
Directions:
1. Clean and dry the jars so the glue can stick adequately
2. Using an applicaiton sponge, brush the Mod Podge onto the inside of the jar where you want the sand to stick.
3. Put a small amount of sand inside the jar and screw on a lid.
4. Shake the jar until you get the desired amount of sand on the jar.
5. Allow to dry before inserting a battery-operated candle.
Enjoy some light in the darkness! These jars could have many spiritual messages applied to them as you work together crafting them. For example, you could talk about letting your light shine (even if trials and difficulties make you feel like you aren’t shining as much as you would like). You could talk about how the Savior is the light of the world, and we want to clear out the sin in our lives so His light can reach us even more. What lessons do you think would work well? Tell us all in the comments.
